Happy Mother's Day!

I want to send out my love and appreciation to all the moms around the world. You are some of the hardest working, most dedicated, giving people on the Planet! I am so fortunate to have many moms in my life who have taken me under their wings, giving love, support and encouragement as I move through life. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all so much!
This Mother's Day is a little bittersweet for me. It's only the second one since my Mom passed away. For nearly 3 1/2 years, I was her main caretaker as she bravely and cheerfully fought stage 4 kidney cancer. The last Mother's Day we had together, my mom spent almost the entire weekend in the hospital with an unexpected complication.

My mom was my biggest fan and supporter-she's the main reason I became a jewelry designer and metalsmith. She always loved it when I gifted her with jewelry I made for her, even though she didn't wear much jewelry. I was lost for months following her death, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life, and just went through the motions of living as that winter dragged on. I hadn't realized how much of my identity had been tied into being her daughter and caretaker until she died. Over the past 1 1/2 years, I've been rediscovering myself, relearning who I am as a human being. I know she would be so happy and proud that I rekindled my longtime dream of starting my own jewelry design business, along with pursuing other passion projects and contributing to world peace in my own unique way.

I owe my mom so much, I've been trying to live my life in a way to repay my debt of gratitude to her. Deep down, all parents want their children to be happy. As I take responsibility for my own life, growing and expanding, along with constantly striving for my own happiness and helping others around me to do the same, I know this is how I can repay her. I try to bring this out through my design and production practices, from the time I spend in my sketch book to the materials and techniques I use to my intentions in every piece of jewelry I create.
How did you show your love and appreciation this Mother's Day? Do you have a special memory of your mom? I'd love to hear from you!
